Most kitchen problems aren't kitchen problems. They're an extractor that was never ducted properly, a run of sockets in the wrong place, a floor that wasn't level before the units went on it, and a waste that was fudged because the soil pipe was two metres away.

What separates a good fit from a bad one

First fix. Where the water, waste, gas and power land is decided weeks before the units arrive, and it can't be fixed afterwards without taking it apart.
Extraction. Recirculating because ducting was too difficult is the compromise people regret daily.
Levels. Stone worktops are unforgiving — if the floor and the carcasses aren't right, the joints will tell everyone.

Another room, or another floor. Drainage and gas decide what's possible — we've moved one from the first floor to the ground.

The island is the question: you'd want power and possibly water in it, which means routing under the floor. What's the floor construction?

If it's timber, straightforward. If it's a concrete slab, we'd plan it differently. Worth a visit.

What needs certifying in a kitchen

Kitchens rarely need planning permission, but they do involve notifiable electrical work and, where there's gas, work that must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Both come with certificates you'll want when you sell.

Rules change and every property is different. We confirm what applies to yours in writing at the survey rather than leaving you to guess.

How long does a kitchen job take?

Can you fit a kitchen I've bought elsewhere?

Yes, and we do it regularly — Howdens, Ikea, Magnet, a designer supplier, or a bespoke maker. We'll check the plan against the services before anything is ordered.

How long will I be without a kitchen?

Three to six weeks for a typical refit. We can often leave you a working sink and a temporary run for part of it — we'll say at survey.

Do you do the electrics and gas too?

Yes. NICEIC registered for the electrical work and Gas Safe registered for the gas, so the certificates come from us rather than another company's diary.

Can you move the kitchen to another room?

Often, yes — it depends on the drainage run and the gas. This is exactly the kind of question a photo and a five-minute conversation answers.
